Student Visa & Immigration

Immigration procedures in Malaysia are fairly simple and hassle free with our team of immigration experts who guide students in gaining complete vital information regarding Student Visa and immigration rules.

Student Visa

All applications for student passes by international students are done through Malaysian educational institutions. The processing, approval and issuance of student passes and visas is carried out by the Immigration Department in Malaysia, except for students from the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Students from the PRC have to get their visas from the Embassy of Malaysia or the Council of Malaysia in the PRC.

Family members of students under the following categories will be allowed to accompany students to stay in Malaysia for the entire study duration with approval from the Immigration Department. They are:

Parents of students

Spouses, children and parents of students from Middle-East countries

Spouses and children of students who are studying postgraduate programs

International Student Bond

In addition, the Immigration Authority of Malaysia requires all education providers in Malaysia to sign a International Student Bond on behalf of the candidate, binding the education provider for the said sum.

To comply with this requirement, the education provider requires a candidate to lodge with the education provider the said sum for this purpose. This money will be returned to the student upon completion or withdrawal of his/her study in this education provider, on condition that there is no violation of any provision of the Immigration Ordinance 1959 (F.M. 12 of 1969) and Immigration Regulations 1963 (F.L.N 228/63)

 Extension of Pass

Where an extension of the Student Pass is required, students must submit their passports to the International Student Office at least 6 weeks before the expiry of the pass in order to facilitate the extension.  Failure to do so would result in paying extra charges to obtain a Special Pass. All penalties imposed by the Malaysian Immigration Department in the event of late extension or expiry of Student Pass are to be borne by the student.

Expiry Dates

International students are required to take responsibility of monitoring the EXPIRY DATES of their own passports and Student Passes.

Class Attendance

An international student must satisfy program requirements by attending at least 80% of all the scheduled classes (lectures and tutorials), and achieve satisfactory academic results. ATTENDANCE in classes is COMPULSORY at all times unless the student is able to provide a Medical Certificate (MC) from a certified doctor. Failure to do so can result in his/her Student Pass being revoked.

Employment

International students who are in Malaysia on a student pass have few opportunities to undertake paid employment.  Limitations placed upon international students by the Malaysian Immigration Department makes it virtually impossible to undertake any form of paid employment whilst studying in Malaysia. Under no circumstances should an international student undertake unofficial employment as this could result in his/her Student Pass being revoked.

Loss of Passport

Please make sure you lodge a police report within 24 to 48 hours of the incident.  The student will need to submit a copy of the Police Report to his/her country’s Embassy/Consulate Office in Malaysia as part of the new passport application.  Please submit a copy of the police report o the International Student Office so that he College can apply for the transfer endorsement of the Student Pass to the new passport at the Malaysian State Immigration.
